Discernment Edge
Applied Theology, Reflective Practice, and Spiritual Accompaniment

Discernment Edge is a platform dedicated to applied Catholic theology, thoughtful spiritual discernment, and reflective practice.
Here you will find disciplined theological reflection, tools for spiritual growth, and opportunities for guided accompaniment offered within clear ethical and professional boundaries.
Formation and Theological Orientation
My work is rooted in the Catholic theological tradition, with a particular emphasis on Ignatian discernment and reflective practice. Discernment is understood here not as a rapid solution to life’s questions, but as a disciplined attentiveness to God’s action in daily life, shaped by Scripture, tradition, prayer, and sustained reflection.
I am committed to ongoing academic and spiritual formation, supervised engagement with reflective practice, and an approach to theology that is both contemplative and applied. This orientation informs all the theological reflections, formation resources, and limited guided engagements offered through this platform.
Academic Formation
Master’s in Applied Catholic Theology
University of Mary, North Dakota, USA (2025)
Focus: Applying theology to lived contexts, including personal life, family systems, professional settings, and community engagement.
Professional and Pastoral Formation
Alongside formal theological study, I have undertaken structured training and certification in areas that support pastoral sensitivity, discernment, and ethical accompaniment, while remaining distinct from clinical or therapeutic practice:
-
Sacred Scripture (Old and New Testament)
-
Spiritual Direction (Ignatian tradition)
-
Family and Marriage Counselling
-
Clinical Psychology (Levels 1 & 2 – foundational, non-clinical)
-
Mental First Aider for Catholic Youth
-
Life Coaching
These areas of formation are integrated cautiously and purposefully, always with attention to professional boundaries, safeguarding, and role clarity, particularly in ecclesial and healthcare-related contexts.
Integrated Approach
My formation brings together theological depth, pastoral awareness, and reflective practice, enabling a grounded and balanced approach to accompaniment. Theology remains the organising framework, with psychological and coaching-informed skills used only insofar as they serve discernment, self-understanding, and responsible pastoral engagement.
What You’ll Find on Discernment Edge
Applied Theological Reflection
Rather than abstract theology or motivational content, this platform offers reflections grounded in lived experience, scriptural insight, and theological method. Each piece explores questions of meaning, vocation, transition, or spiritual attention with both depth and practical relevance.
Formation Resources
Resources support individual reflection and structured engagement with discernment practices, including guidance books and videos, guided prayer exercises, reflective questions, and framework introductions.
Guided Conversations (by Appointment)
In addition to freely available resources, I offer limited one-to-one discernment conversations for those seeking structured, reflective accompaniment. These conversations are undertaken with clear ethical boundaries and are secondary to my primary vocational and academic trajectory.
How I Approach Accompaniment
I’ve seen how powerful it is when people finally move beyond fear, confusion, and self-doubt to step into the life they were created for.
I’m honored to walk with you on this journey toward clarity, courage, and success.
Ethical and Institutional Awareness
I understand the importance of professional boundaries, safeguarding, and appropriate role clarity. Reflective practice and accompaniment are offered in ways that respect these boundaries.
Current Focus and Trajectory
I continue to deepen my theological formation, clarify my vocational direction, and develop experience that bridges academic study, spiritual attentiveness, and applied ministry contexts.
Discernment Edge is intentionally modest in scale, prioritising quality, integrity, and reflective engagement over recognition and growth.
