Catholic Spiritual Resilience, Discernment, and Accompaniment
beril-AI-profile.png

Discernment Edge is a Catholic platform dedicated to spiritual resilience, discernment, and reflective accompaniment through life’s difficult seasons.

Rooted in Ignatian spirituality and the Christian tradition of finding strength within weakness, Discernment Edge offers practical spiritual resources, theological reflection, and one-to-one accompaniment for those navigating suffering, uncertainty, difficult decisions, emotional exhaustion, and spiritual struggle.

This work is shaped both by lived experience and ongoing theological formation, bringing together prayerful reflection, Catholic spirituality, and practical discernment for everyday life.

Formation and spiritual Orientation

My work is rooted in the Catholic theological tradition, particularly Ignatian spirituality and the practice of discernment.

Discernment is understood here not as a quick answer to life’s problems, but as a prayerful attentiveness to God’s presence and guidance within daily life, suffering, uncertainty, relationships, work, and personal transformation.

At the heart of this approach is the conviction that weakness and difficult seasons can become places of deeper spiritual growth, resilience, and dependence on God.

Inspired by St. Paul’s words:

“When I am weak, then I am strong,”

Discernment Edge seeks to help people remain spiritually grounded, reflective, and attentive to God even during periods of struggle and instability.

personal journey

Serious health challenges and multiple surgeries profoundly reshaped my life and spiritual journey.

What began as a search for stability within suffering gradually became a deeper exploration of discernment, resilience, and the ways Christian spirituality can help a person remain faithful and grounded through weakness and uncertainty.

This lived experience continues to shape the heart of my work, especially in accompanying those navigating bodily suffering, chronic illness, emotional exhaustion, and difficult seasons of life.

academic and theological formation

Master’s in Applied Catholic Theology

University of Mary, North Dakota, USA (2025)

Focus:
Applying Catholic theology to lived experience, personal formation, relationships, suffering, community life, and practical spiritual accompaniment.

I am also continuing doctoral research at University of Tilburg at the School of Catholic Theology in the Netherlands, exploring spiritual resilience, suffering, and the Christian spiritual tradition.

additional formation

Alongside formal theological study, I have undertaken structured training and certification in areas supporting discernment, pastoral sensitivity, and reflective accompaniment, including:

  • Sacred Scripture (Old and New Testament)

  • Ignatian Spiritual Direction

  • Family and Marriage Counselling

  • Foundational Clinical Psychology Studies

  • Mental Health First Aid for Catholic Youth

  • Life Coaching and Reflective Practice

These areas of formation are integrated carefully and responsibly while maintaining clear distinctions between spiritual accompaniment, psychological therapy, coaching, and medical care.
